How this is calculated
Forex and CFDs
Lots = risk ÷ (stop in pips × pip value per standard lot). The pip value of a standard lot (100,000 units) is in the pair's quote currency and is converted into your account currency at a dated reference rate. The result is rounded down to 0.01 lot.
Futures
Contracts = risk ÷ (stop in ticks × tick value). Ticks = stop in points ÷ tick size. Whole contracts, rounded down. Many futures firms also cap the number of contracts per account size.
Stocks
Shares = risk ÷ stop per share (distance in USD), rounded down to whole shares. With a share price, the calculator takes at most as many shares as the account size pays for as buying power. Commissions per share are not included.
Risk against the daily limit
If you are already down today, you have less room to the daily loss limit. In "% of daily limit" mode the calculator uses what is left: limit minus today's loss.
