"Instant funding" sounds like a shortcut: pay, log in, start trading, no evaluation. That is half true. You skip the evaluation phase, not the rules. They now sit inside the account itself, and on several points they are tighter than after a challenge.
This guide uses the published rules of FTMO, Goat Funded Trader, FundedNext and City Traders Imperium to show what an instant account is, where the rules differ and what the difference costs. Every figure has a source and the date it was read.
Not to be confused with: Instant Funding is also the brand of a prop firm (operator per its website: IF Pro Ltd[13]) with its own profile. This guide is about the model, not the firm.
What an instant account is
With a challenge you first buy an evaluation. For the FTMO Challenge 2-Step that means a profit target of 10%[14] in the first phase and 5%[15] in the second, without breaking a loss limit. Only then do you get the account on which payouts are possible.
An instant account drops the evaluation. FTMO describes its Instant Account as active the moment you buy[1]. FundedNext advertises Stellar Instant as having no profit target, no daily loss limit and no minimum trading days[7].
What stays the same: it is a simulated account. Per FTMO, all trading on its platform is simulated, the Instant Account explicitly included, with fictitious capital only[3]. FundedNext speaks of a simulated environment using virtual funds[7], and per Goat Funded Trader, Instant GOAT is a simulated account[28] too. What gets paid out is a share of the simulated profit, under the firm's rules[24]. So at the four firms here, "instant funded" means: a simulated account right away.
Read the legal notice, not the headline. City Traders Imperium's help article on Instant Funding says "Real funding from the start"[9]. The legal disclosure on the same firm's programme page says that all trading takes place in a demo environment with virtual capital[8]. Austria's FMA also notes that these models often do not trade with actual capital[11].
Tighter loss limits
Without an evaluation, the firm needs a different filter. On the instant accounts here, that filter is mostly the loss limit: smaller, trailing, or both.
FTMO. After the 2-Step challenge the maximum loss is 10%, static[17] and the daily limit 5%[16]. On the Instant Account it is 10%, trailing[22] and 3%[21] a day. Trailing means the limit follows the highest closed balance and never moves down. It does not reset when you withdraw either. Per FTMO, once your balance has exceeded 110% of the initial capital, a reward withdrawal would breach the limit; keeping an eye on that is your job[2].
Goat Funded Trader. Instant GOAT allows a total loss of 6%[30], trailing up to the initial balance, and 3%[29] a day. On top of that, the account is closed as soon as the combined floating loss of all open positions reaches 2% of the initial balance. Unlike at FTMO, the limit resets after each payout[5]. The account after the 2 Step Standard has 10%, static[36] and 5%[35] a day.
FundedNext. Stellar Instant has no daily limit[42], but a maximum loss of 6%, trailing up to the starting balance[43]. The Stellar Lite challenge of the same size uses 8%, static[46].
City Traders Imperium. Here the limit is static, 6% of the starting balance. But the starting balance is half the account size you buy: on the USD 10,000 account you start with USD 5,000 and may lose USD 300[48][8]. In the 2-Step challenge of the same size it is 10%, static[52] of the full USD 10,000.
Example: you trade a 100,000 account with a 6% trailing limit, as on Instant GOAT[5]. The limit starts at 94,000. If the account rises to 104,000, the limit follows to 98,000. If it then falls back to 98,000, the account is gone, even though you are still 2% up. With a static 10% limit the line would still be at 90,000. The drawdown calculator shows where your limit sits, day by day.
The split: sometimes lower, sometimes higher
You might expect instant accounts to pay out a smaller share. At the firms here, though, the range runs from half to more than after the challenge:
- FTMO: Instant Account 90%[24], after the 2-Step challenge 80%[18] to start with. On the split, the instant route is the more generous one here.
- Goat Funded Trader: Instant GOAT 80%[33], the same as after the 2 Step Standard (80%[37]). Instant Daily starts lower: 60% on the 1st and 2nd, 70% on the 3rd and 4th and 80% from the 5th payout[40].
- FundedNext: Stellar Instant starts at 70% from day one and rises to 80% from Tier 3[7].
- City Traders Imperium: 50% on Level 1, 70% on Level 2[49]. You can only request the Level 1 share once you reach the 10% target on Level 2[50]. And you only reach Level 2 with a 10% profit on the starting balance[8]. So there is a profit target after all; it just goes by another name.
Rules change. For FTP accounts (Instant Funding) bought from 2 November 2026, Audacity Capital has published new rules: no profit target, a 75% split on the first payout, 80% on the second and 85% from the third, plus a 35% consistency rule. Older purchases keep the rules that applied when they were bought[10]. Always check which version applies to your purchase.
So never compare the split on its own, only together with the loss limit and the waiting time. The payout calculator works out what would be left after the split and fees.
Consistency rules and waiting times
A consistency rule caps how much of your profit a single day may account for. At FTMO and Goat Funded Trader it applies to the instant account, but not to the account after the 2-step challenges compared here:
- FTMO: on the Instant Account your best day may be at most 30%[23] of total profit; after the 2-Step challenge there is no such rule[19].
- Goat Funded Trader: on Instant GOAT no single day may bring more than 15%[31] of the profits in a payout period; the 2 Step Standard has no such rule[38].
- FundedNext: Stellar Instant has no consistency rule[44].
- City Traders Imperium: Instant Funding requires a consistency score of 20% for scaling[8].
At FTMO and GOAT a missed share is not a breach: you keep trading until your best day is small enough, and only then is a payout possible[2][5].
Worked example: your best day brings 1,500. With a 15% cap as on Instant GOAT, you need at least 10,000 in total profit before you can request a payout (1,500 ÷ 0.15)[31]. With 30% as on the FTMO Instant Account it would be 5,000[23]. The formula: best day divided by the allowed share.
And "instant" does not mean an instant payout either.
- FTMO: a reward request on the 14th day after the first trade at the earliest[25].
- Goat Funded Trader: before each Instant GOAT payout you need 5 profitable days of at least 0.5% each[32]; payouts run every 14 days[5].
- FundedNext: Stellar Instant pays on request once the account is 5% up; with less profit every 14 days, provided the account is at least 1% up[7].
- Goat Funded Trader, Instant Daily: the account closes automatically after 30 days[41]; you have to request payouts before then.
What instant accounts cost
The biggest difference is on the price tag. At the same account size, the instant account costs more than the challenge at all four firms:
| Firm | Account size | Instant account | Challenge, same size |
|---|---|---|---|
| FTMO | USD 100,000 | Instant Account: EUR 2,999[26] | Challenge 2-Step: EUR 540[20] |
| Goat Funded Trader | USD 100,000 | Instant GOAT: USD 815[34] | 2 Step Standard: USD 628[39] |
| FundedNext | USD 10,000 | Stellar Instant: USD 299.99[45] | Stellar Lite: USD 59.99[47] |
| City Traders Imperium | USD 10,000 | Instant Funding: USD 259[51], starting at USD 5,000[8] | 2-Step Challenge: USD 99[53] |
These are list prices; promotions and discount codes are not included. FTMO charges in euros; the prices here are for accounts in US dollars[26].
The price alone says little. More telling is what the loss buffer costs you, meaning the amount you may lose before the account is gone. Per thousand dollars of buffer, using the figures above:
- FTMO, 100,000: Instant Account about EUR 300 (2,999 ÷ 10), 2-Step challenge EUR 54 (540 ÷ 10)[26][20].
- Goat Funded Trader, 100,000: Instant GOAT about USD 136 (815 ÷ 6), 2 Step Standard about USD 63 (628 ÷ 10)[34][39].
- FundedNext, 10,000: Stellar Instant about USD 500 (299.99 ÷ 0.6), Stellar Lite about USD 75 (59.99 ÷ 0.8)[45][47].
- City Traders Imperium, 10,000: Instant Funding about USD 863 (259 ÷ 0.3), 2-Step challenge USD 99 (99 ÷ 1)[51][53].
The comparison is not entirely fair, in either direction. The challenge buffer at first only covers the evaluation: to get to a payout you have to pass it, and, as Belgium's FSMA notes, consumers often pay for several attempts[12]. In return, at FTMO the account comes without a further fee once you pass: FTMO charges only the one-time purchase fee and refunds it for the 2-Step challenge with the first reward, but not for the Instant Account[4]. Goat Funded Trader refunds the fee with the fourth payout on an account, per its help centre also for instant accounts, but not for Instant Daily[6]. FundedNext refunds nothing on Stellar Instant and refunds the Stellar Lite fee with the third reward[7].
The repeat-attempts calculator adds up what several attempts cost. The buffer cost calculator shows the price per unit of buffer across all firms.
What to check before you buy
Austria's FMA points out that traders in these models often have to pay first before they receive anything from the firm, and that most prop trading platforms are currently not supervised[11]. Belgium's FSMA calls it a "shadow investment game" and notes that the firm alone decides the conditions[12].
Before you pay for an instant account, go through these points:
- Loss limit in dollars, not per cent: how much may you lose, from which starting balance, static or trailing? At City Traders Imperium the starting balance is only half the account size[8].
- What happens after a payout: does the limit reset, as on Instant GOAT, or not, as on the FTMO Instant Account[5][2]?
- Consistency share and minimum profitable days before every payout.
- Split and stages: which share applies from which payout or level?
- Fee refund: is there one, and when?
- Identity check: on the FTMO Instant Account it comes only at the first reward request[27]. So you only find out whether you clear it after you have paid and traded.
- Account life: Instant Daily closes automatically after 30 days[41].
- Legal notice over marketing copy: if a help article and the legal notice contradict each other, as at City Traders Imperium, read both and ask the firm in writing before you buy.
An instant account is not a shortcut to a payout. It is a different price for a different rule book. Work out both before you pay.
Not investment advice. This guide explains rules and terms. It recommends no firm and no challenge. Prop firm accounts are usually simulated accounts.
