The platform is the program in which you place orders, read charts and manage your positions. At a prop firm it is attached to an account of the firm, usually a simulated account: The5ers writes that its evaluation runs exclusively in a simulated environment[1], and E8 Markets explicitly lists its platforms "for simulated trading"[2].
The firm decides which platform you get, and often whether you may switch later. At The5ers the choice is final once purchased[1], and the same goes for Alpha Futures[3]. This guide explains nine platform names, shows which firms offer which in PropCrab's profiles, and collects the country restrictions the firms state themselves. There is no ranking.
Platform, connection, data feed
At forex and CFD firms, platform and server usually come as one package. City Traders Imperium, for instance, runs its own MT5 servers on a MetaQuotes licence owned by the firm[4][6].
Futures firms often add one more layer: the connection that carries prices and orders. Tradeify offers three, Tradovate, Rithmic and WealthCharts, chosen at checkout and priced the same. With Tradovate credentials you trade in Tradovate, NinjaTrader or TradingView; with Rithmic credentials in Tradesea, Quantower, Sierra Chart or R|Trader. At Tradeify, TradingView and NinjaTrader only run through Tradovate, and switching the connection needs a new account[7]. Take Profit Trader maps each platform to a data feed, CQG or Rithmic, and says most of them need a licence key[8].
The nine platforms in brief
MetaTrader 5 (MT5)
MT5 is made by MetaQuotes, which calls itself a software company that provides no investment or brokerage services. MT5 runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, as a web terminal and as an app; in its MQL5 language you write trading robots and indicators and check them in the strategy tester[9]. Whether you may use such robots, called "Expert Advisors" in MetaTrader, is the firm's decision: City Traders Imperium explicitly mentions them for the desktop version[4], Maven Trading prohibits them on all its platforms[10]. MT4 is listed by FTMO and FundedNext in the profiles (see the lists below).
cTrader
cTrader is Spotware's flagship platform, built for brokers and prop firms[11]. Spotware Systems is incorporated in Cyprus; cTrader runs on Windows, Mac, the web and mobile, and its trading robots are called cBots[12]. ctrader.com also states that the services of cTrader Ltd, which runs the site, are not available to citizens or residents of the USA[12].
Match-Trader
Match-Trader comes from Match-Trade Technologies. The company describes itself as a software developer, not a broker, and sells a version for prop firms with built-in evaluation tools. Its charts come from TradingView[13]. City Traders Imperium describes Match-Trader as a platform that runs entirely in the browser, with nothing to install[5].
TradeLocker
TradeLocker is operated by TradeLocker Limited, based in Ireland. Here too the charts come from TradingView; the platform is offered to brokers and prop firms, and TradeLocker points to bots and trade copiers from partners[14].
TradingView
TradingView, Inc. describes itself as a charting platform and social network; you write your own indicators and strategies there in Pine Script[15]. At prop firms TradingView shows up in three roles:
- Trading front end: connected to the firm's account, for example at FTMO[16] or, at futures firms, via Tradovate[7].
- Analysis only: FundedNext currently supports TradingView for market analysis only; execution is paused[17].
- Built-in charts: inside Match-Trader[13], TradeLocker[14] and TopstepX[18].
TopstepX
TopstepX is Topstep's platform, developed and owned by ProjectX Trading LLC[18]. It runs in the browser at topstepx.com/trade or from the dashboard. Because of exchange rules it allows only one session at a time across all devices[19]. Topstep's "Express Funded Account" runs on TopstepX[20].
Tradovate
Tradovate is a cloud-based futures platform for Windows, Mac, the browser and as an app. According to Tradovate, orders are held at the exchange or server-side, never on your device, and Tradovate belongs to the NinjaTrader Group[21].
NinjaTrader
NinjaTrader is a futures platform for PC, Mac and mobile[22]. NinjaTrader, LLC owns and supports it as a software development company; brokerage services come from a sister company[21]. At prop firms NinjaTrader runs through a connection: at Tradeify through Tradovate[7], at Take Profit Trader through CQG[8]. At Apex Trader Funding the NinjaTrader platform is included with accounts via Rithmic and Tradovate[49].
Rithmic
Rithmic is mainly infrastructure: Rithmic, LLC provides trading infrastructure, market data and connectivity for futures and options[23]. With Rithmic credentials you use other vendors' platforms such as Quantower or Sierra Chart[7]. Rithmic's own front end is R|Trader Pro, which Lucid Trading calls the official Rithmic platform[24].

For Goat Funded Trader the entry is partly based on extracts from the shop; the help centre names Volumetrica in general, US clients included[29].
Futures firms: who offers which
- Topstep: TopstepX (ProjectX)[48]
- Apex Trader Funding: connection via Rithmic, Tradovate or WealthCharts; with Rithmic and Tradovate the NinjaTrader platform is included[49]

At Take Profit Trader you can move between platforms that fit your data feed without telling the firm[8]. At Lucid Trading, NinjaTrader, Tradovate and TradingView run on CQG, the others on Rithmic[24]. The Apex Trader Funding entry is based on an extract from its home page, not on a rules page.

Clients in the USA and other country rules
For clients resident in the USA, many forex and CFD firms state their own platform rules. This is what their pages say on the day of publication:
| Firm | MT5 for US clients | cTrader for US clients | What US clients can use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Capital Group | no | only if you already have a cTrader account | cTrader (existing), DXtrade, TradeLocker[25] |
| Audacity Capital | no | not offered | DXtrade[26] |
| Blue Guardian | no | not offered | Match-Trader, TradeLocker[27] |
| BrightFunded | no | no | the page names no block for DXtrade[28] |
| City Traders Imperium | no | not offered | Match-Trader[5] |
| E8 Markets | no | no | TradeLocker, Match-Trader[2] |
| FundedNext | no | no | Match-Trader only[17] |
| Goat Funded Trader | no | no | TradeLocker, Match-Trader, Volumetrica[29] |
| Instant Funding | no | no | Match-Trader only[30] |
| Maven Trading | no (nor in Canada) | not offered | the page names no block for Match-Trader[10] |
| The5ers | no | no new accounts | TradingView[1] |
At Alpha Capital, US customers with an existing cTrader account can keep trading and buy new evaluations. If you travel to the USA with an Alpha Capital MT5 account, you are asked not to use it while you are there[25]. The other pages do not say what happens to existing US accounts.
Firms rarely give reasons. BrightFunded writes that MT5 and cTrader are unavailable to US clients "due to local regulations"[28]. For cTrader there is a press report: on 1 July 2026 Finance Magnates reported that, after an internal regulatory assessment in the first quarter of 2026, Spotware decided to restrict the onboarding of US-based traders on cTrader. That is a Spotware spokesperson quoted by the trade publication, not a notice on Spotware's own pages. According to the same report, US clients can no longer buy new cTrader accounts at FundedNext from 31 March 2026, and after the MetaQuotes restrictions of 2024 a significant number of US prop firms had moved to cTrader[33].
Two more points:
- FTMO names no country rule on its platform page[16]. Per its FAQ, FTMO serves clients in the USA through an affiliated entity at ftmo.oanda.com[32]; which platforms are offered there is not on that page.
- Futures firms: the platform pages we read at Tradeify, Take Profit Trader, Lucid Trading and Alpha Futures state no country rule for individual platforms[7][8][24][3].
Firm-wide country lists apply on top. They are on the profiles of the firms.
What to check before you buy
- 1Switching: FTMO allows a platform change under conditions[16]. Blue Guardian only while the account has no trades, or when you move to a new phase[27]. Goat Funded Trader allows one change if no trade has been placed[29], Maven likewise, but no longer from Phase 2 on[10]. At The5ers[1] and Alpha Futures[3] not at all, at The Trading Pit not during the Challenge[31].
- 2Surcharge: cTrader costs USD 10 extra at The5ers[1], and USD 10 extra at E8 Markets if the account costs less than USD 100[2]. FundedNext does not sell 100,000 and 200,000 accounts on cTrader and Match-Trader, except Match-Trader for US clients[17].
- 3Connection and licence: at futures firms the connection decides the platforms, and some platforms need their own licence[7][8].
- 4Residence and travel: check the country rule per platform, not only per firm[2][25].
The challenge cost calculator adds up what a challenge costs including fees. How futures and forex prop differ otherwise is in the guide Futures vs forex/CFD.
Not investment advice. This guide explains rules and terms. It recommends no firm and no challenge. Prop firm accounts are usually simulated accounts.
