A reset puts a failed evaluation account back to the start, for a fee. At Topstep, balance, Maximum Loss Limit, consistency target and trading days all go back to day one[4]. You trade a simulated account, and the fee for the failed attempt is gone. According to Austria's regulator, the FMA, the business model often lives mainly on the fees many traders pay for challenges rather than on realistic trading[1].

This guide covers what further attempts cost at individual firms, when resets come free or discounted, and what published pass figures actually say. The prices come from PropCrab's firm profiles; each reference leads to the firm's page and the profile's date.

Reset, re-purchase, discount: what "once more" can mean

  • Back to the start: Topstep resets the Trading Combine completely[4]. Tradeify creates a new account with a new number, of the same account type and with the same settings[8].
  • Only the lost phase: Goat Funded Trader starts the new account in the phase where the rule was broken. If you passed Phase 1 and failed Phase 2, you repeat only Phase 2[13].
  • Reactivation after passing: Topstep brings back a lost "Express Funded Account" before the first payout with "Back2Funded", at USD 599 on 50K, within 30 calendar days of the closure[5].
  • Reset as a discount on the purchase price: for the reset of the 2-Step Challenge, City Traders Imperium lists an "unlimited" 15% discount[14]. For Direct Funding the programme page says "Reset on Failure 10% Discount"[15], the help article 15%[16]. When two pages of the same firm give different figures, ask the firm in writing before you buy.
  • No reset at all: per the FAQ on its programme overview ("Funded Trader Program"), Audacity Capital does not reset accounts that breach the rules; to carry on, you buy a new evaluation[17]. At Tradeify, Lightning Funded and "Sim Funded" accounts have no reset, and a breach there is final[8].

Tradeify, Select Evaluation50KUSD 165 one-time[34]USD 109[35]
  • On both paths, Topstep charges exactly one month of the subscription for a reset[5].
  • The Apex Trader Funding values come from the product data of the pricing configurator on its homepage, not from a rules text. The list price is the price before the coupon discount Apex shows next to it[22][23].
  • At Lucid Trading it is the price of the cheapest setting, with a daily loss limit and 40% consistency[24]. At Tradeify Select it is the price with 40% consistency; with the 50% add-on, purchase and reset cost more[9].
  • On 3 November 2026 a bot check blocked our request to Lucid Trading's shop catalogue; for Lucid the profile's date applies[24][25]. We read the other prices again at the firms that day, and they matched the profiles[12][22][11][26][5][9].

For the other firms in the directory no fixed reset price is recorded. That does not mean there is none; it means we have not sourced one.

Percentages instead of prices: Goat Funded Trader

Goat Funded Trader prices a reset as a markup or discount on the original purchase price. The later the phase, the more it costs:

Programme[13]Phase 1Phase 2"Funded" account
1-Step−7%–+125%
2-Step−7%+65%+200%

Each phase can be reset only once, and only within 14 calendar days of the breach. A "funded" account that has already had a payout can no longer be reset. Resets exist only for accounts bought on or after 15 June 2026, and not for the Pay Later and Goat Stride models[13].

Subscription or one-time: when the meter keeps running

On a subscription, the monthly fee counts as well as the reset. Topstep bills the Trading Combine every 30 days until you pass or cancel, breach or no breach[6]. In return, each rebill adds a Reset Credit to your "Reset Bank". After a reset, the next billing date is 30 days after the reset was bought, and each account allows at most two resets a day[4].

At Take Profit Trader a reset does not change the subscription's renewal date[11]. On 50K the USD 170 per month[26] keeps running, plus USD 99[27] per reset. Whether a reset moves the billing date at Alpha Futures is not on the overview page – the firm does not say so there[12].

Tradeify sells evaluations as one-time purchases; a reset account carries on with no recurring fee[8]. The caps Tradeify lists for the Select Evaluation show how many attempts are possible: 15 evaluations and up to 10 resets per evaluation, each per 30 days[10].

Free resets, credits and discounts: the conditions

  • Topstep: you pay for the Reset Credit through the subscription. Newer credits expire one year after they are added and only work for the same size and account type. Per the help article, Topstep sometimes hands out free resets on TopstepTV and through its newsletter[4]. A promo code applies to a new Trading Combine or a reset, not both[5].
  • Tradeify: free resets exist only as TradeifyTV giveaways and Rewards Center prizes, not on request. Promo and discount codes do not apply to resets. Reset credits do not expire[8].
  • Goat Funded Trader: a Phase 1 reset costs 7% less than buying the same challenge again. Per the firm, reset promotions appear now and then in the dashboard under "My offers" and on social media. Accounts from GOAT Points, giveaways or competitions have no reset. The firm lists a "Free Challenge if you fail the account" only from level 3 of its scaling plan, after 5 months in the "live funded phase" and 10 payouts[13].

A free repeat because you ended in profit without a breach appears on none of the pages we read for this guide.

Refunds do little for repeat attempts either. Topstep does not refund purchased resets, not even accidental ones[7]. At Tradeify all sales are final, resets included[9]. On the FTMO Challenge 2-Step, FTMO refunds the initial purchase fee once you request your first payout[36]; on the 1-Step Challenge and the Instant Account the fee is not refundable. The page names no refund for earlier purchases that did not pass[18].

Why attempts add up

Every attempt is paid in full, however close it was. A reset changes at most the price per attempt, not the number of attempts, and on a subscription the running time comes on top.

Worked example: five attempts

Say a challenge costs 100 and a reset 70:

AttemptResetTotalRe-purchaseTotal
1100100100100
270170100200
370240100300
470310100400
570380100500

After five attempts you have paid 3.8 times the first fee with resets, and five times with re-purchases.

Worked example: subscription plus resets

Say a subscription costs 100 a month, a reset 60, and the reset does not change the renewal date, as at Take Profit Trader[11]. Two resets in the first month and one in the second come to 2 × 100 for the subscription plus 3 × 60 for the resets, 380 in total.

Run your own numbers

In the cost of repeat attempts calculator you enter the purchase price, the billing, a reset or a re-purchase and, if you like, a budget. Pick a programme from the directory and it fills in the recorded reset price; if there is none, it counts the purchase price and tells you so. It shows attempt by attempt what adds up, and on purpose it does not compute a probability of success. If a subscription keeps running alongside the resets, as at Take Profit Trader[11], it does not count those months; add them yourself as in the second example. The challenge cost calculator adds activation fees after passing.

What published pass figures say

PropCrab does not compute a pass rate of its own. Two sources from the industry itself:

  • FPFX Tech via Finance Magnates (18 September 2024): the data covers over 300,000 accounts of 100,000 traders at 10 firms. 14% of traders passed the challenge and obtained a "funded" account, about 45% of those received a payout, which is 7% of all traders. Per account, an average of USD 800 was spent on challenges over the whole activity cycle, typically across three different ones. FPFX sells software to prop firms; the article does not describe a methodology[2].
  • Topstep, 2025 statistics: 16.8% of all Trading Combines started were passed. 51.8% of the individuals who started one or more Combines reached the "Funded Level" in at least one of them, and 33.3% of individuals there received a payout. Per Topstep, the figures mix simulated and live trading and do not indicate future results[3].

The first Topstep figure counts Combines, the second counts people. For the rate per person to be higher, many people must have started more than one Combine. How many on average, and whether a reset counts as a new Combine, Topstep does not say[3]. A rate "per person" therefore includes the attempts before, and their fees.

Why PropCrab does not promote resets

According to the FMA, many platforms rely on performance pressure, gamification and the prospect of later trading for the company. That, it says, motivates traders to take part in challenges again and again and to keep paying fees. With paid challenges in particular, it adds, a situation can arise that resembles the relationship between a player and a casino[1]. Around resets and repeat purchases you find such mechanics at the firms themselves:

  • On TopstepX a pop-up with the reset option appears as soon as a Trading Combine breaches the Maximum Loss Limit. The help article opens with "Hit the limit? That's okay. Here's your fresh start."[4]
  • Goat Funded Trader credits one GOAT Point for every USD 1 spent[13].
  • On certain evaluations, Tradeify gives 5% off when you buy 5 identical accounts in one order[9].

Comparison sites can get paid for resets too: in FTMO's partner programme, every reset a referred trader buys on a Futures evaluation pays the partner commission, 5% to 9% depending on the partner level, for up to 12 months[19]. That is why PropCrab shows no reset codes and no reset promotions, no ticking timers and no pop-ups. The calculator only counts; it does not cheer you on. How we sort is explained in the methodology.

Before the next attempt

  1. 1Why was the account closed? Read the rule that was triggered. For a trailing loss limit, the drawdown types guide helps.
  2. 2Reset or re-purchase? Compare the prices and check what gets reset: everything, as at Topstep[4], or only the lost phase, as at Goat Funded Trader[13].
  3. 3Is a subscription running alongside? At Take Profit Trader the renewal date stays the same[11]; at Topstep it moves to 30 days after the reset was bought[4].
  4. 4Deadlines and caps: 14 calendar days after the breach at Goat Funded Trader[13], two resets per day and account at Topstep[4], 10 resets per evaluation per 30 days on Tradeify Select[10].
  5. 5Set a budget first: fix the total before you buy the first attempt, and run it through the calculator. Buying again right after a breach means deciding under pressure.

More on buying is in the checklist before buying. The full rules and fees: Alpha Futures, Apex Trader Funding, Audacity Capital, City Traders Imperium, FTMO, Goat Funded Trader, Lucid Trading, Take Profit Trader, Topstep and Tradeify.

Not investment advice. This guide explains rules and terms. It recommends no firm and no challenge. Prop firm accounts are usually simulated accounts.
